Website Accessibility
Background
Lakeshore Public Schools web site provides important information to the students, parents, teachers, staff, and community throughout the Lakeshore district. The site is also visited by people across the United States and many other countries.
One of our organizations primary objectives is to educate and assist all people. As such, one of the goals of our web site is to ensure that all of our users of our site are able to access all the information we provide.
Accessibility
Making a website accessible means making a website that provides equal access for those with visual, motor, auditory, and/or cognitive disabilities. While 19% of the US population has a disability (US Census) approximately 8.5% has a disability that affects computer and Internet use.
Lakeshore Public Schools works hard to ensure that digital communication, products, services, and resources are accessible to people with disabilities. For a website, that means making sure the site is structured so that:
- People with visiual impairments can use screen readers to hear the content of our site
- People with hearing impairments can read the closed captioning included with our videos
- People with mobility issues can navigate the site even if they are unable to use a mouse
Accesibility Plan
LPS has created a Web Accessibility Plan to optimize the accessibility and usability of our website. To guide these efforts, Lakeshore Public Schools has created the following documents:
- Web Accessibility Procedure Document
- Web Accessibility Plan
- Grievance Procedure
- Web Accessibility Training Materials
