What is a 504 plan?
504 plans are formal plans that school teams develop to give students with disabilities the support they need. Parents are considered an equal part of the 504 team.
Students with a 504 are protected under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This is a civil rights law.
504 plans are not part of special education. They are different from IEPs (Individualized Education Plan). 504 plans and IEPs are covered by different laws and work in different ways. However the end goal is the same: help students thrive in school.
