Today is a great day to recognize the people who work behind the scenes to keep our schools clean, safe, and ready for our students and staff each day.
Our custodians do so much more than clean classrooms. They fix things, help when something unexpected comes up, keep things moving, and take pride in taking care of our buildings.
We are so thankful for the work they do every day for Lakeshore. Thank you to our amazing custodians for all you do for our schools!

Roosevelt PTO hosted their annual Color Run yesterday, and it was a perfect day for some outdoor fun! Our students and families enjoyed plenty of color, smiles, and great memories. One of the highlights of the event? The Inflatable Staff Race! We love when our staff members are willing to get a little silly and join in the fun! A big thank you to all of our staff who participated in the race and helped make the day such a success. We’re pretty sure the students weren’t the only ones having fun!

Learning doesn’t always happen inside four walls!
Our Math & Science Center freshmen spent the past two days up north hiking, exploring, collecting data, and putting their classroom learning into action!
At the Platte River State Fish Hatchery, students learned about fish stocking and its role in the Great Lakes ecosystem.
At Sleeping Bear Dunes, they collected data on trees and explored the science of the surrounding environment.
Aboard a 77-foot schooner in Suttons Bay, they conducted scientific research on the water.
The best part? These experiences aren’t just memories from a field trip. Students will use what they learned in all three of their MSC classes — biology, geometry, and computer science — in the weeks ahead.
Real places. Real data. Real science. And a pretty great way to learn!

Michigan gave us a pretty great day to take PE outside! Some of our students took advantage of the sunshine today with a little flag football — getting some exercise, having fun, and enjoying time outside with their classmates. We’ll gladly take days like this!
From the classroom to the top of Al Stockman Stadium! Our Physical Science students recently put their planning, designing, and experimenting skills to the test with a homemade parachute challenge!

We’re excited to see our literacy work continue to grow at Lakeshore!
Recently, our middle and high school ELA teachers came together for the launch of our new **ELA Coaching** work. The day was an opportunity to learn more about coaching, talk about what effective coaching can look like, and begin building a shared understanding of how this work can support both teachers and students.
As we move forward, our teachers will have opportunities to work with coaches in ways that are meaningful to their content areas, their students, and their classrooms.
This work is part of our continued focus on strengthening literacy across Lakeshore and connects with Michigan’s Public Act 146 and its emphasis on literacy, coaching, and professional learning.
We’re looking forward to seeing where this work takes us!

The Lakeshore High School Boy’s Soccer Team is excited to host our annual Senior & Youth Soccer Night on Tuesday, September 22, at Mark Lehmann Memorial Field, as the Lancers take on Battle Creek Central.
The Varsity game begins at 6:30 PM, but we encourage everyone to arrive early as we will honor our senior players before the game. Please be at the stadium by 6:00 PM to help us celebrate and cheer on our Senior Lancers!
All elementary and middle school students wearing a club, professional, or homemade soccer jersey will receive free admission with a paid adult ticket. Youth players will also have the special opportunity to walk onto the field with both teams and stand with them during team introductions and the National Anthem.
Youth players who would like to participate should meet near the stairs leading to the field on the Lancer side at 6:20 PM.
We hope you’ll come out for a fun evening of soccer, celebration, and community support. Please join us in cheering on our Lakeshore Soccer Programs!

Constitution Day is a great reminder that our students aren’t just learning about government and civics — they’re practicing it right in their own classrooms!
Across Lakeshore Public Schools, many teachers begin the year by working with students to create a Classroom Constitution — a shared, living document that outlines classroom norms and expectations. Students take ownership of their learning environment, and the document can be revisited and amended throughout the year as their classroom community grows.
Today at Roosevelt, our 4th graders took that idea a step further! Students learned about the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, watched Schoolhouse Rock, and then worked together to create their own classroom preamble. To make it official, each student signed it!

The 9/11 Stair Climb is off to a great start at Lakeshore’s Al Stockman Stadium.
Thank you to everyone who came out this morning to climb, remember, and pay tribute to the brave men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the lives lost, the heroes who stepped forward, and the incredible courage and sacrifice shown that day.
Thank you, Lakeshore community, for coming together to Never Forget.

Today, the Lakeshore Public Schools community pauses to remember September 11, 2001, and the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day.
As a school community, we have the opportunity to help our students understand the importance of remembering history—not only the events themselves, but the stories of courage, compassion, service, and resilience that followed.
Today, we remember the families who lost loved ones, honor the first responders and others who put their lives on the line, and reflect on the many ways people came together to support one another.
At Lakeshore, we strive to help our students become thoughtful, caring citizens who understand that how we treat one another matters.
